The Restaurant Association, with the support of American Express and Nova Energy, will be hosting a Marlborough MeetMe member briefing on 3rd September at The Tamarind, 14 Scott Street, Blenheim. The Restaurant Association’s member briefings connect regional members to national experts on subjects important to your business.

This MeetMe will be in three parts:

Part 1: 2.30pm – 2.45pm

Industry update, presented by the Restaurant Association

Part 2: 2.50pm – 3.30pm

Which numbers count - understanding industry benchmarkspresented by James O'Connell, The Hospitality Company

All over New Zealand, restaurants, bars and cafés are haemorrhaging money through their cost of goods. The haemorrhage is happening for only a few reasons:

  1. It’s not a sexy area of focus (unless you believe actual results are sexy)
  2. Turn-over may be great – especially in terms of beverage which partially masks shocking food costs and …
  3. the erroneous belief that the bleed can be out-traded … or sustained until food costs miraculously plummet.

None of this is difficult to get over – especially if the owner is brave enough to face the numbers. James will talk about the numbers that count and how you can ensure your hospitality business is profitable.

About James: For 25 years, James O’Connell has loved working in the hospitality industry. He has been a hands-on practitioner in almost every position; kitchen hand, waiter-of-the-year & a partner in a fine-dining waiter school, manager, catering, tertiary lecturer, restaurant-of-the-year judge, restaurant and bar owner, COO of a large Hospitality franchise and hospitality consulting business owner. James loves the industry and loves to teach. His experience and institutional knowledge form the key building blocks of the company.

Part 3: 3.30 – 4.00pm – Networking

We’ll have beverages and food kindly provided by Puhoi Cheese.

Join us to catch up with local operators, as well as Restaurant Association your local Restaurant Association rep, Michael and Branch President, Liz!

Our MeetMe member briefings are presented with the support of American Express and Nova Energy.
